Here Comes The Bride {logo by delphine}

Yesterday afternoon I visited Here Comes The Bride in their new location (Mission Valley, right near downtown San Diego, California). I love the new store! They went with a lilac and deep plum theme for the décor, to match the new logo and business cards we designed for them. So pretty! I also spotted, among the sea of white and ivory gowns, a pretty blue wedding gown. What do you think about blue for a bridal gown?

Here Comes The Bride celebrated their move to a new location by changing their logo colors from earthy green to their new favorite color: violet. So chic and lovely, yes? Normally I would say that changing your branded logo colors is a big mistake, but in this case I think the new color is more representative of the whole bridal vibe and was the best choice for them.

As I've mentioned before, I spent many years living in the South (South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina). I've always loved the look of cotton in floral arrangements, and love the Southern tradition of a natural cotton wreath on the door, but have never seen cotton incorporated into a wedding bouquet quite as beautifully as these wonderful bouquets by Epting Events. Marisu, of the superb Athens, Georgia based photography studio Zoom-Works, captured this shot. (BTW, Zoom-Works is available for destination weddings, so you're in luck even if you don't live in Georgia!)

Their invitation is our signature "Amelie" design, letterpressed in two ink colors (chocolate and linden) on white 100 percent cotton 300 gram stock. We loved how it looked so much that you'll see this image in our upcoming fall ad campaign in Inside Weddings magazine.

One of my coolest clients ever, Tiffani, had a lot of fun with the whole bridesmaids dress issue ... she had a "27 Dresses" themed bridal shower. Everyone wore a real live bm dress from their closet (including Tiffani!). Colleen Sherman took photos ... you can see them on her blog here.

"Bridesmaids dress" ... two of the most dreaded words in every woman's lexicon. Everyone in the same dress = everyone unhappy (SORRY, D, R, J & D!). A great alternative is something like what Katie's bms did: pick a great color palette and a fabric type & let the ladies pick a dress they really love. Aren't these dress colors (and flowers) simply lovely?!?

Sence Rose Nectar. How gorgeous is this product? I love the idea of rose flavored cocktails: a little rosy mojito, perhaps? Or a rose & lavender lemonade for a kids party? Beautiful, romantic, delicious. The little bottles are only $4 and would make pretty party favors. I grew up loving the rose scented candies from France that my Tatie (auntie) Marie sent me in care packages, so this flavor is not a stretch for me.

Many thanks to Victoria at Milkfed Press for sharing her source for vintage stamps: Champion Stamp. Sometimes an invitation is just screaming out for a fun stamp. I think the cactus series would be perfect for an invite I'm working on now... the wedding is at a spa in Arizona; the tropical flower stamps would be nice for a Hawaiian wedding.

Loving these modern lanterns from West Elm. I can see them at a chic, modern WHITE + COBALT poolside (cabanas!) affair. Perhaps the bride wears a cotton eyelet gown ... and everyone sips mojitos ... and the band plays sweet samba rhythms ... and the air is warm and the stars are bright ... and waiters serve ice cream sandwiches at midnight.

Congratulations to Del Martin, 87, and Phyllis Lyon, 84, who were married yesterday in San Francisco by Mayor Gavin Newsom. "Ms. Martin and Ms. Lyon, who have been together for more than 50 years, seemed touched, if a little amazed by all the attention." Read more about them here (New York Times).

Because I am in the wedding (invitation) industry, I have a legitimate excuse for reading all the lovely bridal magazines. I am in love with Lela Rose. The graphic designer in me cannot get over how fantastic her logo is: the repeating lines of the delicate script perfectly echo the look and feel of her bridal gowns. It's her logo and the texture of her gowns that attracted me in the first place. [btw, visit the site to see the logo better...the screenshot is a little blurry].

I was happy when I visited her website to find that she also designs ready to wear/non-bridal. I see that she has incorporated some of my favorite "trends" into her Spring collection: navy, grey and dull metallics--all together, no less.

9th anniversary

Nine years ago John & I were married at The Circular Congregational Church in my "hometown" and favorite city of all time: Charleston, South Carolina. We had a wonderful wedding reception at The Mills House before we jetted off to my other favorite city, Paris, for our honeymoon. When we got married John was a First Lieutenant in the U.S.M.C., and I worked as an advertising editor at a small town newspaper. John looked so handsome in his dress blues! I never guessed that we'd end up in California and start our own design business ... but here we are. So lucky! I love working together.

I wish I could say that we are taking a day off to celebrate, but, with the National Stationery Show coming up in less than a month, the best we can do is a day out of the studio running errands together. So, we're off to Ikea to pick out some furniture for the show.
